Animal
Well, I made it to our last photo assignment. For the final one I choose animal and took pictures of my cats. It was harder to take the pictures than I expected because my cats kept moving. I will admit I should have seen it coming but overall I think I have good pictures. My favorite photo this week is of my cat in one of his favorite spots, by our coat rack. He is looking up at the window above there and I just think he is cute.
Just for fun, my cats names are Buddy and Mo (short for Mo-Mo). Buddy is the black one and Mo is the withe one with the striped spots.

GIMP Assignment #6: Visual Dictionary
For this week we got to choose the editing assignment we wanted to do. There was a choice between visual dictionary and visual puns. I picked the word serenity for the dictionary. When I think of serenity, I think our a peaceful and calm place like a spa or a zen garden. In my picture I used bamboo, rushing water, and the Chinese symbol to show the definition of my word.
I did not take all these pictures, I got them off of Flickr's Creative Commons so I must give credit to the photographers. The background was taken by Zechariah Judy, The splash of water by Rakesh Rocky, and the bamboo was taken by Troy Mason. I also got the definition from the dictionary application on the Mac.

Shadows + Light
We have six down and one to go. For our second to last photo assignment I choose shadows and light. I wanted to demonstrate the different kinds of light such as sunlight, lamp light and flourescent light. My favorite pictures were the ones that used sunlight because those photos had better shadows.

GIMP Assignment #5: School Context
In this assignment we had to change the context of our school by putting pictures from the internet into one of our school. I started by doing "Where is Waldo?" but I couldn't find the right pictures online so I decided to put my favorite band into the school. My favorite band is Mumford and Sons and I took a picture of them from the Grammy's and framed them in the windows by our library.

black+white
For the 5th photo assignment I took pictures and then changed them to black and white shots. Some of these pictures I took while shooting for other assignments but I didn't put them in the slide show. My favorite photo this week I had originally shot for the nature assignment but I thought it looked better in black and white. I also think that the photo has a nice balance of light and dark.

Motion Demo
Our teacher, Mr. Bush, rode his bicycle across the commons in our high school. We sat at the lunch tables taking pictures of him as he rode by. Our goal was to pan the camera and keep the subject in sharp focus while making the background blurred. We shot in shutter priority mode and the hardest part was finding the right speed. I learned it make take a few tries before you get the right photo and then sometimes getting the right shot is matter of luck. Here is my best attempt at motion blur.

Macro
It is the fourth photo assignment and that means we are almost done with the class. I chose Macro this week and I have to say it has been my favorite so far. There are more pictures in this set of photos that I actually like. For example, there is my favorite photo, the light switch, and the silver bead things. While shooting these photos I had to get close to the object in order to get I really deep depth of field. I also used a high f-number to help with that. Now for my favorite photo, I really like this one because it is an art project I did in the 6th grade and I love the colors. When you look at it a certain way you can see the different levels of it and you can kind of see that from this angle.

GIMP Assignment #4: Panoramic
In the fourth editing assignment we took 3 separate pictures and composited them together to create a panoramic photograph. I took pictures of our All State wall in our high school. When I put them together it was surprisingly easy to do, well after we had the demo. Now I know the picture is kind of curved but that is just the perspective of the wall.

GIMP Assignment #3: Portraits
This week we had our 3rd editing assignment. We had to use our skills we have learned before in order to complete this. As part of our assignment we learned two different styles of lighting for portrait shots (studio and window). To show case the differences we had to put the pictures side by side on a black background and give each picture a white frame. I had to use different layers and that went okay until the very end when I found out I was doing it wrong. It was fixed, with the help of Mr. Bush, but over all it was a pain to complete. Well, here it is. The girl on the left was taken with studio lighting and the girl on the right was taken using window lighting.
Light Painting
For the third photo assignment I chose Light Painting. It was fun to shoot all the pictures because the camera is on an extremely slow shutter speed so when you draw with the light source, mine happened to be my iPod touch, it will show up in the final image. For my favorite photo this week I was bored and running out of ideas so I tried playing tic-tac-toe, I am not sure why, but the end picture was kind of cool so I picked it for my favorite of the week.

Nature
Well, the second photo assignment definitely went better than the first. This weeks theme... Nature. I took pictures on two different days: one was sunny the other was grey and dull, but both sets represent what winter looks like in Michigan. Although we do not get many, I like the sunny days. I also used some of editing things we learned about in class such as cloning and levels. That is all I really have to say so here are the pictures.
Favorite Picture:
So I was walking around My house looking for pictures to take and I spotted this row of dried berries. These we the only berries on this bush and usually they are on every branch. I liked that they survived the cold winter and didn't fall off. I also liked the colors, especially the contrast between the berries and sky.

GIMP Assignment #2: Camouflage, Crop, and Color
The Original Photograph:
The Edited Photograph:
I started with a photograph, taken by Noelle Jacobs, and edited it using the application GIMP. First I used the cropping tool, but then I learned how to used the camouflage tool to erase some of the reflections off of the car, It was kind of cool. Then I painted the background with the color black to create the final image.

Still Life
This was our first photo assignment and I choose Still Life. In Still Life you manipulate the lighting and take the photo in a studio-like setting. While doing this I realized that I still have a ways to go in order to be a good photographer. I am still learning the how to use the exposure triangle and the only way I am going to get better is practice so let's hope the upcoming assignments are better.

In my favorite picture, I was looking down into a container of multicolored toothpicks. I like it because of the colors and the arrangement of the toothpicks in a spiky spiral.

GIMP Assignment #1: POP! Art
In this assignment we used the photo editing software GIMP for the first time. We used pictures of ourselves and made pop art, a style that was popularized by Andy Warhol. He used everything from soup cans to Elvis in order to create his images. This is my version of the Pop Art.

Composition Assignment
In this assignment we had to take photographs using 11 different styles of composition. While doing this assignment I learned that in order to be a good photographer, you must think about the shot instead of just pointing and shooting.
